At Freshford, our computing curriculum is designed to empower and inspire within an online safety-first culture, promoting curiosity, creative agency, critical thinking and compassionate decision making. Taught explicitly as computing, our children explore how hardware, software and networks work together and how digital systems influence the way we live, learn and communicate. Through programming, digital creation, logical thinking and using different tools and media, our children develop core computing skills and vocabulary, learning to problem‑solve, recognise patterns and think computationally. Our curriculum nurtures responsibility and digital citizenship by immersing children in the study of online safety, ethics and choice, encouraging them to consider how technology may be used safely to address the evolving challenges of our interconnected world.

Computing at Freshford taught as a connective subject, linking naturally with mathematics, science, design technology, literacy, art, music, sustainability, citizenship and ethics. Children are encouraged to make connections between computing, real‑world applications and global issues such as communication, data, automation/AI and equity of access, helping them develop a framework through which to deepen their understanding of their digital world. Through this broad and balanced curriculum, children build independence and confidence as users and creators of digital technology, while expanding their cultural capital and understanding of the opportunities and challenges of global connectedness. Our intent is that pupils leave as curious, capable, responsible and reflective digital citizens—equipped with the skills, knowledge and values to use technology safely, creatively and compassionately to enhance their contributions as global citizens.
